When Fiddlehead Farm started in 2016, we were just testing the waters to see if farming was even possible. Bob was a carpenter and worked in construction for over 20 years, and Breanna was a visiting psych nurse. During our first season we grew on a 1/4 acre while we both worked full time off farm jobs. We had no idea what we were doing, but we knew we loved farming. The following spring, Bob quit his construction job and began farming full time. Breanna basically handled the flower production side of the farm while still working off farm.
One of our goals was to farm throughout the whole year. As the farm grew, so did our greenhouse space. We currently have about 1/4 acre under plastic high tunnels and farm on a total of 2 acres. Breanna has no plans to work on the farm full time. One of favorite sayings is “I prefer being a farmer’s wife to being a farmer”. So currently Bob manages and works the farm with some outside help during the summer and Breanna consults on the flower growing while also doing the flower harvesting and arranging.
